I’m often asked how Elemental Barossa came about.......Once Upon A Time....... just kidding!!! So I wanted to give you an insight to my life and how I came to open a store in the Barossa.
Most days you’ll find me hustling Master 6 + 8 off to school and then I get to spend the rest of the day in my gorgeous store Elemental Barossa. How did I end up as a small business owner in the Barossa? I was so fortunate to spend nearly 10 years working in Community Development and Mine Action with communities in China, Vietnam and Laos; meeting the most amazing, giving people, and working with communities to overcome poverty. It was such a rewarding time of my life and a period I look back with such fond memories.

And then life changed in so many wonderful ways when our first child came along; once we decided to return to Australia, with a German partner, where else would we choose to live than the beautiful Barossa?

If I’m not working overseas in Community Development who am I and what am I going to do? A question I often pondered as I tried to work out the direction of my life. Being a mum is amazing, but time to go back to work, what was I passionate about in life? What did I wish to change in this world? One stark culture shock I had upon returning to Australia was how disconnected we are from the people who make our products, whether that is food, clothes or gifts we purchase. I wanted to show people who made this beautiful piece of jewellery and how people’s purchases can, and does change lives. I wanted to tell the story behind the products. I want you to know that this small bag you have purchased has been made by a woman in Cambodia living with a disability that is supporting herself and her family.
So with my favourite Mark Twain quote “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover†I opened Elemental Barossa in 2014.
And wow was that a learning curve! Handmade and ethically sourced fair trade products are still at our core, however things have changed and evolved and I’m now bringing you products that help you live a sustainable life, things that can be reused and help you reduce your waste. Things that help you tread more gently on this amazing planet of ours.
In my down time when I’m not child wrangling and searching the world for communities doing amazing things, I love spending time in our garden, growing food that edges us that little bit closer to being more sustainable, reading and dreaming of far flung places around the world that I’d love to visit again one day.
I love hanging out on Instagram, so head on over to @elementalbarossa and check us out. If you would like to hear more sign up to our newsletter.
Thank you for coming along on this journey with me.
